My kids found out after the surgery and now they’re very happy
about it. They can see that I’m happier and I can be so much
more active with them.
Eating: I did make big dietary changes since
surgery. I eat smaller portions and I eat healthy now, like
steamed chicken and fish. I don’t eat meat anymore. My kids are
happy eating healthier too; they know that we’re in this
together!! There’s always been an emotional component to my
eating; I used food to help me cope. Now I have to remind myself
to just serve myself what I can eat, and know that I will get
full. I do have to remind myself to stay away from bad food; it
still smells good to me, even though I’m not hungry. I’m finding
other ways of coping; I talk things out more with my family and
I definitely communicate better with my kids. I’ve got a lot of
support from family and friends. My sister is amazing; she’s
lost 14 pounds since my surgery by being supportive for me.
People ask her is she’s had the surgery too!
Exercise: I always tried to exercise, but I got
out of breath and my back always hurt too much. Now I walk a
lot. I walk fast, and on hills. I walk to work and to school to
pick up my kids. I don’t get as tired doing it, and I enjoy it
now! It feels good to exercise. My back feels way better.
I lost 60 lbs in the first 4 months. I was loosing about 1lb per
day. Now I lose about 3 lbs per week. My goal is to lose around
another 40 lbs.
I tell people not to think twice about having weight loss
surgery; it’s the beginning of new life, a new lifestyle. I
highly recommend it! You wouldn’t think your weight affects how
you see life, but it does. It changes your mind, not just your
body! This is life changing!!!
